Patna: Former MLA
Anant Singh, who was released from jail for a day on parole to attend a wedding on Wednesday, claimed that he hopes to get released from the prison in 10 to 20 days.
Avoiding to comment on his incarceration at a time when political parties are gearing up for the upcoming state elections, he simply made the claims after reaching his ancestral home at Nadwa village in Patna district to attend the wedding of his elder brother's great granddaughter. After his bail was rejected in the lower court, he sought relief from the Patna high court.
Singh's wife Neelam Devi, the current independent MLA of Mokama, accompanied him at the wedding ceremony.
Singh claimed they have the ticket for the assembly elections from Mokama.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate-I court granted him parole for 24 hours after the former MLA applied for it to attend the wedding. He is allowed to attend the function under police custody.
Singh is in jail since January 24 in connection with a shoot-out case in Mokama. On the evening of Jan 22, there was firing in Nauranga village in Mokama. Subsequently, the police filed cases against Singh under the Arms Act and on charges of attempt to murder and obstructing govt work among others.
Singh's supporter Roshan and one gangster Sonu were arrested on Jan 24. Shortly after, the former MLA surrendered in the Barh court.
